Robotic Hand + AI – Learning Outcome & Outline
Robotic Hand
Course Outline :
1. Unit 1– Stimulate Critical thinking through discussions,
• Possible problems cause by lost of hands,
• Some understanding of how hand works and
• How we can solve this?
1. Show YouTube videos and articles of people who lost their hand.
2. How does it impact their lifestyle?
3. Looking at the problem of lost hand,
4. What solution? Implementing the idea of CCC (Cross Cutting Concept).
1. Lost of one hand and both hands? Complexity increases with lost of both hands.
5. Discussion – What need to be done?
• Facilitate discussion by guiding discussion from 3 perspectives to stimulate critical thinking: 1. Education?
1. How does education help and how can we implement this? Show our metamersive.ai platform -reward and fun
2. Marketing?
1. How do we hear of McDonald, Coca Cola, Pizza Hut , Favourite movies, games etc (younger kids)
3. Technology ? Discuss how technology can be used to solve this. Explore with students. • Manufacturing and material – as close to real hands.
1. Story of Captain Hook’s hand? Very limited , why
• Let’s study our hands and see what makes how hand moves and how we control our hands? • How can AI help to make “prosthetic hand” more useful?
2. Unit 2-
1. Carry forward from last week- we assume that it’s already possible to make hands close to how our hands work. Now how can we control it to make the Bionic hand useful?
• Required solution will differ if only one hand is lost compare to both
2. Discussion – to find a technology solution, let’s start with what do the person who lost his hands still have?
• VOICE
• ARM
• EYES
• Brain- mental capacity
• Legs etc
3. Use of AI to control hand. (Simple intro to AI – how it works, TTS, Computer Vision and Machine learning).
4. Solution #1 Control hand via VOICE Command
• Training the Bionic hand to move based on our voice.
• What are required?
1. Step by step process – we call algorithm
2. Write codes
3. Micro processor or Computer
5. Implementing the ideas based on our discussion on technology
1. Discuss and lead them to understand the process (algorithm)
2. Choosing the “computer board” to process/execute this solution
3. Writing codes to control (showing them the codes and logic by templating the codes)
6. Implementing and exhibiting the result
1. Students see (connecting, testing)
2. Letting them try.
3. Is it successfully 100% of the times, or sometimes? Is it effective and useful
3. Unit 3 & 4: Students learn to assemble the robotic hands together
4. Unit 5 & 6 Discussion on how to control if both hands are lost – alternate to voice command 1. Compare effectiveness to solution 1-voice alone?
2. Solution #2 Control via Video (for lost of 2 hands)
1. Training the hands to move through showing videos of required hand movements • Through AI (Computer Vision)
• Voice command also required to activate the video.
2. Repeat 4,5 & 6 above
3. Is this solution effective 100%
5. Unit 7 & 8 – Discussion to explore other possible solutions. Using our arms muscle, brains, etc 1. Solution #3 Control hand by combining the muscle and nerve with AI (Machine Learning) 2. Run through above (4-6)
3. Engaging students by not only discussion but letting them try it on their own and able to exhibit the result.
6. Unit 9- Non Technology Solutions
1. Engaging students to think other ways to help solve the problems of hand loss: 1. How can Education and Marketing to reduce accidents
2. Use interactive platform to check students for understanding
7. Unit 10 – Summary discussion – sell hardware to them.
1. What is the best solution if one hand lost and if both hands
2. Let them try out 3 solutions again.
3. What else can be done and how can you help in future when you grow up ?
